āāIdaį¹ dukkhaį¹ ariyasaccanāti, bhikkhave, mayÄ paƱƱattaį¹. āMendicants, Iāve declared: āThis is the noble truth of suffering.ā
Tattha aparimÄį¹Ä vaį¹į¹Ä aparimÄį¹Ä byaƱjanÄ aparimÄį¹Ä saį¹
kÄsanÄ: For that there are limitless arrangements, phrasings, and illustrations: A parallel phrase dealing with the skillful and unskillful is found at AN 4.188:3.2, except it says āwords, phrasings, and teachings of the Realized Oneā. Taken together with the next line, these passages are saying that these basic teachings are expressed in countless different ways. | Take vaį¹į¹Ä here in the sense āorder, arrangement, presentationā, otherwise attested only for Sanskrit varį¹a. | Saį¹
kÄsanÄ, from root kÄs (āshineā) is unique in early Pali, but in late canonical Pali it appears with several other terms in an expansion of the current passage, evidently having the sense āillustrationā (Ne 4:32.2, Pe 1:32.1).
