“Udakañhi nayanti nettikā, While irrigators guide water,

Usukārā namayanti tejanaṁ; fletchers bend arrows straight, The verb namayanti is literally “bend”, but here it means “bend straight”, as shown at Thag 1.29, where a similar verb is echoed with ujuṁ karitvāna, “having straightened”.

Dāruṁ namayanti tacchakā, and carpenters bend timber straight,

Attānaṁ damayanti subbatā”ti. those true to their vows tame themselves.
