ā€œDvāhaṁ sakkaṁ apucchissaṁ, ā€œTwice now, Sakyan, I’ve asked you,ā€œTwice I have asked the Sakyan,ā€

(iccāyasmā mogharājā) (Mogharāja)said Venerable Mogharāja,

Na me byākāsi cakkhumā; but you, One with Eyes, haven’t answered me.ā€œbut you haven’t answered me, O Clear-eyed One.

YāvatatiyaƱca devÄ«si, ā€˜When asked the third time, the divine seer answers’:I have heard that the divine seer

Byākarotīti me sutaṁ. So I have heard.answers when questioned a third time.

Ayaṁ loko paro loko, This world, the next world,Regarding this world, the other world,

brahmaloko sadevako; the Brahmā world with its devas:and the realm of divinity with its gods,

Diį¹­į¹­hiṁ te nābhijānāti, I don’t know how they’re viewedI’m not familiar with the view

Evaṁ abhikkantadassāviṁ, So to the one who has seen to the far extreme,So I have come seeking with a question

atthi paƱhena āgamaṁ; I’ve come with a desire for a question:for the one of excellent vision.

Kathaṁ lokaṁ avekkhantaṁ, One who regards the world in what wayHow to look upon the world

maccurājā na passatiā€. isn’t seen by Death’s King?ā€so the King of Death won’t see you?ā€

ā€œSuƱƱato lokaṁ avekkhassu, ā€œAlways mindful, Mogharāja, regard the world asThe Buddha cites Mogharāja at AN 1:149 (1:234) as foremost among the monks in wearing coarse robes.ā€œLook upon the world as empty,

Mogharāja sadā sato; empty,Mogharāja, ever mindful.

Attānudiṭṭhiṁ ūhacca, having removed any view in terms of self.Having uprooted the theory of self,

Evaṁ maccutaro siyā; This way one is above & beyond death.you may thus cross over death.

Evaṁ lokaṁ avekkhantaṁ, One who regards the world in this wayThat’s how to look upon the world
