Saraṇattaya The Three Refuges
Namo tassa Bhagavato Arahato Sammāsambuddhassa. Homage to him, the blessed one, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha!
Buddhaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi, I take refuge in the Buddha, The Khuddakapāṭha is a handbook on basic teachings traditionally used as an introductory text for novices. The novice ordination consists of shaving the head, donning the robe, paying respects to the Saṅgha, and reciting the three refuges (Kd 1:54.3.2).
Dhammaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi, I take refuge in the Teaching,
Saṅghaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi. I take refuge in the Saṅgha.
Dutiyampi buddhaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi, For the second time I take refuge in the Buddha,
Dutiyampi dhammaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi, for the second time I take refuge in the Teaching,
Dutiyampi saṅghaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi. for the second time I take refuge in the Saṅgha.
Tatiyampi buddhaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi, For the third time I take refuge in the Buddha,
Tatiyampi dhammaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi, for the third time I take refuge in the Teaching,
Tatiyampi saṅghaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi. for the third time I take refuge in the Saṅgha.
