10. Saṅkhadhamajātaka The Horn-Blower: a past life story
“Dhame dhame nātidhame, Blow, blow, don’t overblow, The story is similar to the previous, except here the instrument is a conch or horn, and the father is the overplayer, not the son.
atidhantañhi pāpakaṁ; for overblowing is bad. Mil 3.1.4:6.8 discusses what happens when a horn player breathes out too much.
Dhantenādhigatā bhogā, By blowing riches were earned,
te tāto vidhamī dhaman”ti. but your blowing dad blew it. Dhamaṁ is nominative singular. We can capture the pun between dhama (“blowing”) and vidhamī (“squandered it”, “blew it”).

Āsīsavaggo chaṭṭho.
Tassuddānaṁ
Yathā icchiṁ tathāhudakā thalā,
Sura sāduphalo ca alīnamano;
Sampahaṭṭhamano caturo ca tayo,
Sataladdhaka bhogadhanena dasāti.
