āPaƱcime, bhikkhave, porÄį¹Ä brÄhmaį¹adhammÄ etarahi sunakhesu sandissanti, no brÄhmaį¹esu. āMendicants, these five ancient traditions of the brahmins are exhibited these days among hounds, but not among brahmins.

Pubbe sudaį¹, bhikkhave, brÄhmaį¹Ä brÄhmaį¹iį¹yeva gacchanti, no abrÄhmaį¹iį¹. In the past brahmins had sex only with brahmin women, not with others.
Etarahi, bhikkhave, brÄhmaį¹Ä brÄhmaį¹impi gacchanti, abrÄhmaį¹impi gacchanti. These days brahmins have sex with both brahmin women and others.
Etarahi, bhikkhave, sunakhÄ sunakhiį¹yeva gacchanti, no asunakhiį¹. But these days hounds have sex only with female hounds, not with other species.
Ayaį¹, bhikkhave, paį¹hamo porÄį¹o brÄhmaį¹adhammo etarahi sunakhesu sandissati, no brÄhmaį¹esu. This is the first ancient tradition of the brahmins exhibited these days among hounds, but not among brahmins.
Pubbe sudaį¹, bhikkhave, brÄhmaį¹Ä brÄhmaį¹iį¹ utuniį¹yeva gacchanti, no anutuniį¹. In the past brahmins had sex only with brahmin women in the fertile phase of the menstrual cycle, not at other times.
Etarahi, bhikkhave, brÄhmaį¹Ä brÄhmaį¹iį¹ utunimpi gacchanti, anutunimpi gacchanti. These days brahmins have sex with brahmin women both in the fertile phase of the menstrual cycle and at other times.
Etarahi, bhikkhave, sunakhÄ sunakhiį¹ utuniį¹yeva gacchanti, no anutuniį¹. But these days hounds have sex only with female hounds when they are in heat, not at other times.
Ayaį¹, bhikkhave, dutiyo porÄį¹o brÄhmaį¹adhammo etarahi sunakhesu sandissati, no brÄhmaį¹esu. This is the second ancient tradition of the brahmins exhibited these days among hounds, but not among brahmins.
Pubbe sudaį¹, bhikkhave, brÄhmaį¹Ä brÄhmaį¹iį¹ neva kiį¹anti no vikkiį¹anti, sampiyeneva saį¹vÄsaį¹ sambandhÄya sampavattenti. In the past brahmins neither bought nor sold brahmin women. They lived together because they loved each other and wanted their family line to continue.
Etarahi, bhikkhave, brÄhmaį¹Ä brÄhmaį¹iį¹ kiį¹antipi vikkiį¹antipi, sampiyenapi saį¹vÄsaį¹ sambandhÄya sampavattenti. These days brahmins both buy and sell brahmin women. They live together whether they love each other or not and they want their family line to continue.
Etarahi, bhikkhave, sunakhÄ sunakhiį¹ neva kiį¹anti no vikkiį¹anti, sampiyeneva saį¹vÄsaį¹ sambandhÄya sampavattenti. But these days hounds neither buy nor sell female hounds. They live together because theyāre attracted to each other and want their family line to continue.
Ayaį¹, bhikkhave, tatiyo porÄį¹o brÄhmaį¹adhammo etarahi sunakhesu sandissati, no brÄhmaį¹esu. This is the third ancient tradition of the brahmins exhibited these days among hounds, but not among brahmins.

Etarahi, bhikkhave, brÄhmaį¹Ä yÄvadatthaį¹ udarÄvadehakaį¹ bhuƱjitvÄ avasesaį¹ ÄdÄya pakkamanti. These days brahmins eat as much as they like until their bellies are full, then take away the leftovers.
